Radon Mitigation for Air and Water

Des Moines Radon |

Air

The radon levels in the air are the greatest contributor to radon health consequences. Because of this, if the radon levels in your home are above 4pCi/L it is highly recommended that you fix your home. There are a few effective ways of doing this.

The most popular is ACTIVE SOIL DEPRESSURIZATION radon reduction system. This system is a vent pipe system and fan pulls the radon from beneath the house and vents it to the outside. This system is not very invasive to your home and is very cost-efficient and effective if the cracks in the foundation and other openings are sealed off. A similar system to the soil reduction system can be installed in houses with crawl spaces.

There are several other methods of mitigation and the best solution for your home might be different than your neighbors’. We will determine the best solution for your home after your testing is completed and then install it for you. We will also show you how to manage it.

Water

If the air in your home has been tested and a radon level of over 4pCi/L was found and you use well water in your home, you need to have your water tested. Surface water (tap water) is typically not a problem for radon, but well water can be contaminated with high levels of radon.

Radon levels in water need to be mitigated because of the radon released into the air when the water source is turned on. A person’s risk of stomach cancer from ingesting radon is much lower than their chance of lung cancer from breathing in the radon released into the air by turning on the water.

Point-of-entry treatment is highly effective for well water. This is a solution where the treatment is performed before the water actually enters your home. Point-of-use treatment is only effective in mitigating the radon in tap water. It is not effective in preventing radon from being released into the air when it comes out of the faucet.
